January 9th, 2023 -- From now until January 27th, 2022, Ujima voting members have the opportunity to review a proposed investment in Kush Groove.
Kush Groove, a cannabis apparel and accessories brand with retail locations in Greater Boston, is being considered for a $200,000 credit investment from the Ujima Fund over four years, with an annual interest rate of 4%.
Co-founded by Michael Pires and Marcus Johnson-Smith, Kush Groove launched in Mission Hill around 2011, and soon became a fixture in the local skate and college scene, sponsoring concerts, product appearances with celebrities like Wiz Khalifa, and hosting events at their brick-and-mortar location.
Admitted into the Good Business Alliance this August, Kush Groove brings flair to its good business practices. We applaud their efforts over the years and share pride in some of their outstanding business practices including:
CORI-friendly hiring practices
Community Ownership
Minimum Wage and Compensation Policies, meaning that all employees earn above minimum wage, and no staff is paid more than five times more than the lowest employee
We sat down with co-founder Marcus Johnson-Smith for our latest investor report. "We’ve been at the forefront of urban cannabis brands for a long time, so it’s exciting to see our vision come to fruition," he says.
