Ujima Welcomes New Community Engagement Managers: Mari and Geo

December 7th, 2022 -- This month, Ujima welcomed two new Community Engagement Managers: Mari Gashaw and Geo Costomiris.

Our new Community Engagement Managers are gatherers and connectors. They are strengthening member participation via deep engagement with our membership body, programmatic offerings, and staff collaboration. Learn more about them below.

Raised in Cambridge, Mari (they/them) received their B.S. in Social Policy and Education and a Certificate in Civic Engagement from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. At Northwestern, they were instrumental in building and developing Black and first generation spaces such as the Black Mentorship Program and SESP Leadership Institute.

Geo (he/him) was born in Boston to immigrant parents, and they continue to live in the vibrant and working-class neighborhood of Dorchester. He views his role at Boston Ujima Project as a bridge between community members and the socioeconomic change we need for our collective liberation. His interests include African and Hellenic cultures, and video games, as well as studying, and making teas, juices, and smoothies.
