Boston Ujima Project Inc. is excited to welcome Pixworx LLC to the Ujima Good Business Alliance (UGBA). Founded by Jaypix Belmer, a Boston native and non-binary Black, Indigenous person of color, Pixworx uses photography as a tool for storytelling to celebrate and preserve the stories of historically excluded communities. A graduate of the New England Art Institute with a B.A. in Photography, Jaypix is known for embedding emotion through light and color to create eye-catching reflections. Jaypix states, “my work digs deep with authentic engagement in communities of color, LGBTQ communities, and other historically or currently excluded communities in the Greater Boston area, which is essential to my photographic journey.”
In December 2024, our Community Standards Committee joyously extended an invitation to Pixworx to join the UGBA, which they graciously accepted. The Community Standards Committee was excited by their outstanding good business practices, including:
Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Workforce: Pixworx prioritizes individualism and freedom of expression, welcoming anyone outside the heteronormative and cisnormative mold to celebrate moments and explore identity. Their core values are community and prioritizing marginalized voices. They put safety first and have a zero tolerance for violence or bullying, which includes physical and verbal attacks such as racism toward queer and trans people of color, transphobia, femmephobia, body shaming, culture shaming, or any form of harassment. The space is carefully monitored to ensure everyone feels safe, heard, and respected.
Product or Service Mission: Pixworx's mission is to preserve a legacy of works and assets through photography and expression. Pixworx's photography business provides the world's safest communication spaces for storytelling, picturing authentic imagery for visual communications to enhance the voice, identity, and visibility of people of color. They provide lifelong memories and celebrate diversity through art and photography.
Voter and Civic Engagement: Pixworx promotes voting and civic engagement by publishing books focused on building community assets and land preservation. They also conduct workshops for youth and high school students to foster neighborhood awareness.
Join us in welcoming Pixworx to the UGBA!
