UGBA Welcomes MathTalk

Boston Ujima Project Inc. is excited to welcome MathTalk to the Ujima Good Business Alliance  (UGBA). Founded by Omowale Moses, MathTalk builds on more than fifty years of math education inspired by his father, Bob Moses, founder of the Algebra Project. MathTalk collaborates with parents, teachers, researchers, artists, and kids to create stories, public art, and digital experiences that make math fun, meaningful and valuable for kids and families everywhere! “MathTalk is a labor of love that has grown out of 50+ years of experience teaching math in public schools and in communities across America.”

In November 2024, our Community Standards Committee joyously extended an invitation to MathTalk to join the UGBA, which they graciously accepted. Joining the Alliance is a rigorous process that involves compliance with our 36 Good Business Standards. The Community Standards Committee was excited by their outstanding good business practices, including:

  • Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Workforce: MathTalk's Equal Employment Opportunity statement and non harassment policies included in their employee handbook center the safety and success of queer and trans people of color.

  • Civic Engagement: MathTalk creates space for team members to discuss current affairs and introduce team members to people who have dedicated their lives to creating an inclusive democracy in America.

  • Consumer Feedback Channels: MathTalk organizes play testing sessions with community members, employs a full time parent leader and community engagement staff member that work in the community with families and partner organizations to ensure that whatever MathTalk creates it is informed by parents and children. Math talk also organizes co-design sessions with families to co-create products and experiences.

Join us in welcoming MathTalk to the UGBA!
