On October 19, 2024, we at Boston Ujima Project, Inc. celebrated our 7th anniversary! And we began a new chapter, as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with an Independence Party at Bootleg Special. This anniversary marks a milestone in Ujima’s mission to build a just and equitable economy for Boston’s working-class Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities; our Independence Party was an opportunity to celebrate this progress alongside Ujima’s supporters, members, and partners.
The night was filled with joy and shared movement—including crowd-favorites like line dancing and the electric slide 💃🏾🕺🏽. DJs Lady Ly and SuperSmashBroz kept the energy high, while Cupcake Therapy provided sweet treats!

Thank you to everyone who made this night and our journey possible! Cheers, to seven years of building community power and to the exciting future which lays ahead of us.
We’d like to share special thanks to Bootleg Special, for hosting us; New England Photo Booth, for capturing our memories of the night on film; and our incredible event organizers, Cierra Peters and James Vamboi, as well as the entire Ujima staff, for facilitating the evening’s enjoyment.
Our celebration was beautifully documented by photographer Sun and videographer Dorian, of the Midas BKS creative collective. Check out the photos and videos below!
