Ujima is Swahili for collective work and responsibility. Our vision for a just and sustainable Boston is based on the belief that we all have a role to play in creating an equitable economy.

Participate

Boston Ujima Project is fueled by people live you who believe in community power, culture and collectivity to bring together neighborhoods and make another Boston happen.

Levels & Criteria

Choose the membership that’s right for you, we have something for everyone.

Voting Membership

Join as a voting member if you:

  • Live in Boston and identify as working class and/or as a person of color.

  • Or if you are a working class and/or person of color who has been displaced from the city.

Resident Membership

Join as a Resident member if you:​

  • Are you a person of color and/or a working-class resident of Boston

  • AND do not wish to vote on Ujima's investment portfolio, plans or governance decisions.

Youth Membership

Join as a Youth member if you:

  • Between the ages of 16-24,

  • Live in Boston and identify as working class and/or as a person of color,

  • Or if you are a working class and/or person of color who has been displaced from the city

Solidarity Membership

Join as a Solidarity member if you:​​

  • Live outside of Boston,

  • OR do not identify as a person of color,

  • OR do not identify as working-class.

If you hold a Voting Membership, you are eligible to join various member teams and working groups that support Ujima's programs, like the Community Standards Committee, Investment Committee, and more!

Plan & Govern

The Ujima Voting Delegation is a group of super voters who work together to ratify additional investment plans with us. Delegates will review no more than ten businesses, and have time to discuss their thoughts with each other.

Voting Delegation

The Ujima Member Teams are a self-organized, non-hierarchical group of community members that work to strengthen Ujima’s participatory governance structure, community relations and help the wider public learn about and enroll in Ujima, solidarity economy, and economic democracy.
