Futures of Repair: Six Peoples Assemblies for social dreaming, collective imagining and building the future world we desire.
January 8, 2025
What if we repaired the harm and collectively birthed a world beautiful beyond our wildest dreams?
Heed the call to create your cocoon, so that you can dissolve into the IMaginal and emerge transformed and take flight. Tap into the depths of consciousness to rebuild the world anew. Leap beyond the current moment to shape a future worthy of our ancestors’ wildest dreams. Enter the new year with a vision so clear and so bold and so palpable it appears vividly before all of your senses. Now you must claim your sacred responsibility to repair the world.
One. Face the grief and explore the source of the heartbreak. Where is the hurt, the rupture, the wound?
Two. Choose the site of healing. Decide what harm you yearn to repair. What lament does your heart sing?
Three. Draw a red circle around what you desire to reclaim. What must be restored? What breach must be closed? What must be returned? What must be gathered whole once again? What must be healed now so that future generations will never know the pain?
Four. Tell the story of the future we make possible when we repair. What world is made possible by a paradigm of reparation? What do we allow to emerge? What do we collectively give birth to?
Five. Now, become repair. Decide who you must be for repair to be possible. What new stories we tell. What rituals and ceremonies we create. What ways of being we embody. What leaps and transformations we require. What power we cultivate. What relationships we heal. What commitments we hold to. How do we embody that future, right now?
You are invited to a series of Peoples Assemblies for Building our Future World.
Author Talk: We Refuse
January 16, 2025
Black resistance to white supremacy is often reduced to a simple binary, between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s nonviolence and Malcolm X’s “by any means necessary.” In We Refuse, historian Kellie Carter Jackson urges us to move past this false choice, offering an unflinching examination of the breadth of Black responses to white oppression, particularly those pioneered by Black women.
The dismissal of “Black violence” as an illegitimate form of resistance is itself a manifestation of white supremacy, a distraction from the insidious, unrelenting violence of structural racism. Force—from work stoppages and property destruction to armed revolt—has played a pivotal part in securing freedom and justice for Black people since the days of the American and Haitian Revolutions. But violence is only one tool among many. Carter Jackson examines other, no less vital tactics that have shaped the Black struggle, from the restorative power of finding joy in the face of suffering to the quiet strength of simply walking away.
